Chassis Whisper — Drivetrain Vibration Fingerprinting

The cab WiFi hears a failing bearing weeks before breakdown.

Frontier Frontier live in runtime

Plausible physics, early work — shown honestly as an experiment.

Engine and drivetrain vibrations shake the panels, and the panels shake the signal at their own frequencies — a mechanical fingerprint. A worn bearing or failing mount changes that fingerprint in a specific way. Every healthy truck has a steady signature at idle, so drift away from it is easy to see.

In the physics: Panel and component vibrations (5-40Hz and aliased harmonics) phase-modulate reflected paths; a worn bearing or failing mount changes the vibration spectrum imprinted on multipath. Machine-vs-human vibration discrimination is already proven, and each vehicle's healthy spectrum is a stable fingerprint at idle.

How the field becomes an answer

Micro-Doppler spectral estimation 5-40Hz at controlled idle adaptive PCA healthy-vibration manifold per vehicle compartment Kalman + CUSUM on spectral-line drift over weeks of daily idle snapshots.

How we prove it

Own-hardware: ESP32 mesh in 5 fleet vans, daily 60s idle capture for 90+ days, correlate spectral drift against maintenance records and reference accelerometer; induce a known fault (loose mount) as positive control.

Who it is for

Predictive maintenance from the WiFi you already installed for cargo sensing — sold to fleet maintenance directors as 'an accelerometer network for free'.
