BreathDensity: Ventilation-Adequacy Proxy

Senses when a room's air is getting stuffy — by how the people in it breathe.

Frontier Frontier live in runtime

Plausible physics, early work — shown honestly as an experiment.

Every occupant adds their own gentle breathing rhythm to the WiFi field, so the system knows how much breathing is happening and where. When air quality worsens, people quietly breathe a little faster — a shift the field picks up before the CO2 sensor at the far duct catches on. Ventilation can be boosted before anyone feels it.

In the physics: Each occupant contributes a breathing line at 0.1-0.5Hz whose collective spectral energy scales with the number of respiring people, and elevated ambient CO2/stuffiness measurably raises human respiratory rate — so the population breathing-rate distribution drifting upward is a physiological proxy for deteriorating air quality, sensed before the CO2 sensor at the return duct catches up.

How the field becomes an answer

Breathing-band micro-Doppler (0.1-0.5Hz) multi-source spectral decomposition RTI localization to assign respiratory load per zone adaptive PCA baseline of the zone's normal rate distribution CUSUM on upward rate drift triggers ventilation boost via BMS.

How we prove it

OPERAnet respiration ground truth for single/multi-person rate accuracy; own-hardware: meeting room with reference CO2 logger + respiration belts through full-occupancy meetings — test whether RF rate-drift leads CO2 rise by the hypothesized 10-20 min.

Who it is for

For the workplace wellness / ESG lead: 'The building senses when a room starts breathing harder and freshens the air before anyone feels it — wellness-certification evidence generated by the WiFi itself.'
