OpenEnvelope: Window/Door State & Energy-Bleed Alarm

Knows which windows and doors are open — and when you're heating the parking lot.

Strong theory Strong theory

The physics is solid; our own validation is scheduled.

An open window or propped door rewires how WiFi waves travel: a reflecting pane of glass is suddenly an open corridor for the signal. That switch is clean and repeatable, so the system reads open or closed reliably. Cross-checked with HVAC runtime, it shows exactly where conditioned air is escaping.

In the physics: An open aperture radically rewires multipath: glass (eps_r~6, partially reflective) vs open air removes a reflection path and opens a low-loss transmission corridor, shifting specific CIR tap delays/amplitudes in a binary, repeatable way; a swinging door also gives a transient Doppler burst that timestamps the event.

How the field becomes an answer

Doppler transient (event trigger) CIR sparse-recovery tap-state classification against learned open/closed constellations (axis discovery: teach by cycling each window/door once during setup) MVE anomaly for 'open + HVAC on + unoccupied' composite alerts.

How we prove it

Own-hardware: cycle windows/doors in an ESP32-meshed office, measure per-aperture classification accuracy and hold-time reliability; ESP32-wall for aperture-vs-wall propagation contrast.

Who it is for

For the building operations / sustainability manager: 'Every window and door reports its own state through the WiFi — stop conditioning outdoor air and know which fire door is propped at 2am.'
