How it works
Each breath moves the chest slightly, and that movement gently ripples the WiFi waves crossing the bed. The system reads the breathing rate and rhythm night after night. A resting breathing rate that creeps upward is one of the earliest signs of infection in older people.
In the physics: Chest wall displacement of 4-12mm at 0.1-0.5Hz phase-modulates CSI on paths intersecting the bed; cardiac ballistic motion (~0.5mm) leaves a weaker 0.8-2Hz component recoverable when the resident is motionless in bed. Rising resting respiratory rate is one of the earliest physiological markers of sepsis/pneumonia in the elderly — a pure slow-drift problem, which is exactly what CUSUM is built for.
