Sundowning & Nocturnal Wandering Radar for Memory Care

Sees night-time wandering and pacing through the walls, and warns before someone leaves.

Strong theory Strong theory live in runtime

The physics is solid; our own validation is scheduled.

A person moving through the home casts a moving shadow in the WiFi field, even through interior walls. The system follows the path from room to room and notices pacing loops and visits to the front door. It watches movement patterns only — never faces, never sound.

In the physics: A moving body is a strong differential scatterer: RTI attenuation images localize the resident to ~0.5-1m through interior walls, and repetitive pacing produces a distinctive periodic occupancy pattern plus sustained low-frequency Doppler energy. Circadian disruption changes the time-of-day distribution of motion energy, which is directly observable without any interpretation of identity or appearance.

How the field becomes an answer

RTI differential imaging for trajectory extraction Doppler energy histogram binned by hour adaptive PCA + MVE with a per-resident 24h rolling baseline compartment Kalman on nightly activity-onset phase + CUSUM over 1-2 weeks to detect circadian phase drift (a documented sundowning precursor).

How we prove it

WiMANS multi-person activity data for trajectory/activity separation; ESP32-wall dataset for through-wall tracking fidelity; own-hardware pilot in one memory-care wing against staff incident logs and door-alarm events.

Who it is for

For memory-care directors of nursing: 'Know a resident is trending toward elopement days before they reach the door' — night-shift wandering heatmaps and drift alerts from the WiFi already in the walls.
