Metal reflects signal far more strongly than a human body ever can. A big concealed object — a toolbox, a machete-class blade, stolen copper — adds a bright extra echo that travels along with the person carrying it. The system flags the glint and where it went; it does not name the object.

In the physics: Metal is a near-perfect scatterer: a body-carried metal object creates a new, strong, polarization- and angle-dependent specular multipath component that a purely dielectric human body cannot produce. In the CIR this appears as an anomalously strong extra tap that moves rigidly with the tracked person, with scattering cross-section far above tissue.
