How it works
Feeding termites and gnawing rodents make the wall tremble very faintly, and that trembling marks the signal — clearest in the quiet of night. Over weeks, their tunnels and the moisture termites carry in also change how signal passes through that wall. Two independent clues, pointing at the same section of wall.
In the physics: Feeding and head-banging termites and gnawing rodents produce sustained micro-vibrations of the wall substrate (roughly 1-40 Hz envelope band accessible to CSI micro-Doppler), phase-modulating paths reflecting off that wall section, predominantly at night when the baseline is quietest. Over weeks, galleries and the moisture termites import alter the wall's effective eps_r/sigma along those same paths.
